We've supported The University of Nottingham with a number of facilities and catering projects including their Greens Cafe which required a striking new look. The Ginger Root Design Team were tasked with drawing up design concepts that could then be printed and fitted by the Production Team.
Bringing a little colour to Greens Cafe
The existing cafe in the medical building was sterile and the university wanted to revitalise the space without any major structural changes. The Creative Team came up with a number of designs, keeping in mind the brief and the school’s history and modern usage. The final chosen design transformed the space with just wallpaper and vinyl wall stickers.
Behind the design
The Greens brand and logo style were extrapolated across some of the cabinet and wall spaces by using the pointillised coffee bean graphic. A tile texture was introduced to the remaining areas to give depth to the large white walls and cabinets, these added a classic element and created a more sophisticated personality for the cafe. The mix of textures were designed to fit with the existing materials and to modernise the space whilst keeping it welcoming. Little touches like the heritage of the cafe’s name around the ceiling units were added to further enhance personality.
Proposed designs were superimposed to preview the final look
The signage was used to transform the space, adding depth and texture, without any major changes to furniture and fixtures. This meant that the university were able to redesign their cafe space without huge unnecessary costs. This is a great way to transform existing spaces and create a whole new atmosphere.
